The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team, which finished tied for third in the District 24-4A campaign, had several members named to the all-district teams.

Named first team all-district were senior center Lexie Edwards and junior forwards Bethany Fry and Kylie Roberts.

“To have three on the first team is a big deal for sure,” head coach John Berkman said. “I thought they deserved it. They carried the load for us.”

Roberts played in different parts of the scheme. She was usually out front of the half-court defense and took on the role of point guard during the 42-37 bi-district loss to Waco Connally Feb. 12. The way the Lady Mustangs controlled the pace of that game gave them a chance at a victory.

Fry’s toughness on defense cut off dribbling and passing lanes to the basket. She made sure to disrupt the opponents’ offensive rhythm.

Edwards was the only unanimous first team selection. She averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds a game. The Lady Mustang, who was the team’s lone senior and four-year letterman, fought her way to the scoring and rebounding categories. Opponents understood a big key to beating Marble Falls was to ensure Edwards was made as uncomfortable as possible, Berkman said.

“It was definitely a good way to finish her career and being a leader,” he said. “I think everyone in our district, all the coaches in our district, have a tremendous amount of respect for Lexie. They showed that in how they played her by double-teaming and triple-teaming her throughout the season.”

Sophomore center Leslie Reynoso was named second team all-district and junior guard Kenadie Cotton was named honorable mention.

Reynoso’s continued positive progression throughout the season was evident in how she played during her first year on the varsity. After adjusting to the speed and strength of posts, her toughness was a bright spot for the Lady Mustangs, who depended on her to limit second-chance points and be unafraid to get offensive putbacks.

“Leslie played a lot of minutes for us,” the coach said. “She handled the rebounding that made a big difference for us.”

In a district that featured lots of incredible guards, Cotton held her own on both ends of the floor, the coach said.

Berkman said he was happy with the selections and pleased the Lady Mustangs who logged plenty of minutes received their recognition.

“We want to get as much as we can for the all-district,” he said.
